My mother's side of the family were 'somebodies'. Several inventors, an industrialist, a Hollywood actor, an Irish revolutionary, someone who married into the British Royal family, and even a state level champion hog breeder! My father's side? well, not so good. However, they were really good house painters, and became the choice of a President's estate to keep it looking spiffy. In fact, I even spent a summer painting the iron fence that circles the estate and library.
You certainly have some distinguished roots m'dear! How far back have you gone in tracing your ancestry? I know the actor of whom you speak since you already told me his name on a prior thread. I'm very impressed. Thank you for your thoughtful and informative answer bh. Which of them makes you proudest? It would be SEVERAL INVENTORS for me personally. :)
Franchot Tone's father, an inventor in the steel industry, wrote a considerable family history book using family Bibles going back to about the 5th century. The main inventor was John Reid, who built the steam engine for the ocean-going paddlewheeler Adriatic, a ship featured on a U.S. postage stamp issued in 1869. (there have been several ships named 'Adriatic')

How very smart and good of him to have done that for the family bh! Wow. Even more impressive. How proud you must be of that. How proud you SHOULD BE of that. It's nice to know that you know and can it pass down to future generations. I applaud that and admire that. Thanks for sharing more details. The mind of an inventor must be a fabulous place! I'm gonna ask that.
