Whom would you rather hire for landscaping-work: a team of Mexicans, or some guy who shows up in a pickup truck with confederate flag and NRA bumper stickers and a gun rack in the back window, and who

I don't have any landscaping for anyone to work on.

Oh, some guy who shows up in a pickup truck with confederate flag and NRA bumper stickers and a gun rack in the back window, definitely. That gun rack is very important too, particularly if I have a gopher problem.

And he'll be so entertaining to watch. Especially the part that comes after he says "hey y'all, hold my beer and watch this!"

The guy with the pickup truck.  Around here, all the Mexicans are employed.

  • The person or persons who I feel can do the job the best.

TBH, the thought of a confderate flag and NRA bumper sticker would be fun. My husband and I can hold hands and kiss each other while we clean our guns watch them work for us.

Whom?  That is objective case.  It is Who, not whom.

The second choice would  not get past my driveway.

The first may, depending on their skills and references.

Are you sure?  Wouldn't the Nazi crew you are currently employed with take umbrage at your disloyalty?

It would depend on the price they were wanting to charge, what type of equipment they had, etc.

If the Mex spoke English. (I don't speak Spanish...can't negotiate if cannot talk)

I would not like the confederate flag....the rest I can deal with.

  • I would hire the ones who I have heard good things about their work.  I would hire the ones who gave me a professional estimate of their services.  I wouldn't hire anyone who just showed up at my door soliciting my business .. that's just not real smart.

Actually it should be "whom", the easiest way is the "he/him" method.  Is the answer to the question he or him.

    Who/Whom did you hire?

I hired him. (so it is whom)

    Who/Whom hired you?

He hired me.  (this is a Who)

That would depend on several variables, none of which are included in your question.  How big is the job?  Who has the ability and tools/equipment necessary to do the job properly and in a timely manner?  Who has good references?  How did the estimates compare?  And finally, I take my gut feeling on anyone I hire into consideration.
