How can a football player chew gum while wearing a mouthguard?



  As I type this, I am currently watching the Sunday Night Football game between the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
  The Packers' quarterback, Brett Hundley #7, is chewing gum as he plays, something that I don't believe is possible when wearing a mouthguard.  (It does not appear at all that he is wearing a mouthguard.)  I thought that by the rules, they are required safety gear just as much as a helmet is?

    I"m watching the same game I think he swallowed it. I got indigestion  just looking at this game. What a fix!!! Don't think there is much of difference in space with or without it. In this guy"s case it would not matter.
