Sometimes we both are, but often she doesn't understand my humour.

Jim is so fast with quips I swear they come automatically. He can't possibly have time for it to go via his brain. I usually get his humor right off the bat. He can tell if look glazed and dazed that I didn't and he waits patiently! My humor is quite different. I admire his ability and faculty with puns and quick replies. He admires my style which is generally sharing with him something really stupid I did or some weird fantasy that occurs to me. I sing every morning and my voice is less than mediocre. He likes it  because he knows I'm happy and you know what they say. "If momma ain't happy ain't no one happy" or something like that. I sing funny songs to entertain him as I putz around the kitchen.  When I hear giggles in the other room it feels really good. I wish I were quick like him but then we'd be competing. We don't because our strengths are different. Thank you for your reply Ele. Do you explain it to her? I know having to explain takes away spontaneity but still it would nice to do unless she would feel  talked down to in which case it 's best to just let it go!  :)

If I have to explain something, then it would no longer be spontaneous.

Didn't I just say that?  Didja want to read what I wrote once again? If spontaneity is all that matters to you then explaining is not in your playbook. If, on the other hand, having your wife understand your humor  is important then explaining comes with the territory. I don't know which you is more important to you. Only you do. :)

I have tried now and then to explain, but she doesn't understand. She is quite funny and makes up words. My favorite is 'voicetress' She made it up when the cat would not stop meowing.

    Have you READ my questions?

Both of us are - me with the puns and dad jokes, her with deliberate misunderstandings - if something can be taken two ways, she'll always pick the obvious mistake. Keystone Kops stuff.
