Why would you give an old woman a 1st Dan black belt if she can't defend herself?

Don't get me wrong, I love her enthusiasm, and she is doing great for her age....but, c'mon now, she would get pushed over. They're just deluding her.

    Because she can.  Up to a point.  It is a good discipline and if you are getting on in years, it keeps you alive and vital that exercise.

    She wouldn't be able to do anything. It's not her fault for believing that, it's the people who gave her the belts.

  • They are called " McDojos"  they reward black belts just for putting time in.  Basically pay-to-belt  places.   Second,  the whole belt ranking system in Karate is arbitrary and stupid.  There is no real rhyme or reason to it and it's not consitent.
