What do you think of claims that the best defense against identity theft is a credit score over 800?

According to some hackers, the best defense against identity theft is the same thing that most people thinks makes you most likely to get hacked.  "When you see a score over 800 it's like opening a box and finding a poisonous snake inside," said one hacker.  "When you see scores that high nowadays it means that person probably keeps track of all their accounts online, downloads their credit reports, knows their score, the whole bit.  You won't have time to apply for credit or make any purchases on the cards before that person notices something's up and contacts authorities."

The logic seems sound, but I have a far better method: have a credit score as close to zero as possible.

I want nothing to do with credit/debt.
