How long will my television last for if I never turn it off?

ive already had it for about 6 years and now when I turn it on it doesn’t come on for hours. It stays in standby and only comes on when it feels like it. I can’t afford a new tv at the moment so I’m just going to keep it switched on. Tv’s in airports are on 24/7 so it should be safe. Just hope it lasts until the new year

  • If it's an old style CRT tv they will last for decades left on .  The newer HDTV panel display types will fade or burnout in a couple of years left on.  Even leaving them on for more than 5 hours straight is bad for them.

  • Thankies.   It sucks there isn't any CRT TVs being made.  They were so much better.  They were even made in HD before HD was a thing. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at December 10, 2017 6:37 AM MST

  • Sure it is but it's consumer demand that killed them.  I mean the things were clunky and and heavy as hell and wasted a lot of space.

  • I'd say give it about 4 years and you will start to notice some degradation in picture.   Usually you get this fuzzy effect and these weird digital lines that look like UPC barcodes at image transitions.
