as for Mickey Rooney's Japanese neighbor, when I saw it when it first came out, we all laughed at his 'schtick'....that was way back in 1961.....when it was recently revived in theaters, that little 'bit' was considered 'racist'....good grief how PC our society has become......what a shame........I'm Italian and sure don't like the stereotype of the 'gangster' and big noses and cigars, but I don't have a cow over it.
and as for hiring an Oriental to do that, just what Oriental comedian did you have in mind???? were there any around at that time? and if so, who would have hired a little-known one for that small part?
