Yes, it can be. When people see you more for the size of your wallet or what you might do for them than for who you are.

Wealth is a powerful ally, or it can be the impetus of one’s destruction. While it can indeed provide many solutions, money brings it’s own set of concerns, many of which folks who don’t have it won’t know.

All told however, I prefer being financially independent as opposed to the alternative.

That is something about which I have never had to worry. Being "loved" for my money. I think it would be a real problem. Some folks are such good actors they can convince you that what you see with your own eyes and hear with your own ears  isn't happening. "Financially independent" is fuzzy. Do you mean you never will have to worry about outliving your money? SIGH. Well congrats on that. Jim and I worry. We rent. We live on social security (if doofus donny eliminates it and Medicare we're toast) and modest monthly payouts from our extremely modest retirement investment. Thank you for your reply Don B!  :)

Money can be a trap, and a hindrance to the personal growth and spiritual progress of any human being. (1timothy 6:9-11) This post was edited by Autumnleaves at December 26, 2017 4:52 AM MST

I have fantasized from time to time about what it would be like to go into a fancy schmancy hi-falutin' store and buy whatever caught my eye WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE PRICE! I just wonder what that would feel like. I think it would be very nice to have enough money not to have to worry about outliving it. Jim and I do worry about that especially if the politicians damage Medicare and Social Security. Setting that emotionally satisfying benefit aside it really wouldn't change our lives appreciably. We would do one thing for sure...buy a condo at a beach. But lifestyle-wise Jim would still play tennis and golf and I'd still love to cook and get on the internet and watch classic old movies. We wouldn't be jet-setting anywhere or buying jewels and homes and yachts and cars. No need. Thank you for your reply Autumn. I think I'm gonna ask that question. :)

Money is an exchange of energy.

I like to think of it that way.  I have all I need.

I would love to have a chance to see what it would be like to be really wealthy enough to do some things I cannot do without it.  More freedom.  But when you start putting your life on hold over it, then it is a ball and chain.

I agree although Jim and I worry about outliving our money. I mean Paul Ryan said next year he is going to focus on Medicaid/Medicare/Social Security. SIGH. Thank you for your reply Sharon. Jim and I would LOVE to live in a condo at the beach. That would be our one extravagance. At least I think that's the only change in our lives having lotsa money would bring. I could be wrong. We might just go nuts and I'd buy a Lamborghini and heavens knows what Jim would buy! Maybe a second home somewhere with a 4-car garage! He's always fancied having a HUGE garage! :)

I am very happy just having enough to pay my bills and still have some left over. Having a ton of money would not make me happy, it would just complicate my life. You have too much to worry about when the bank account is too fat.

I agree although it would be nice to go into an upscale store and buy whatever caught my eye without looking at what it cost....just once in my life to see what that "feels" like! Thank you for your reply LC and Happy Tuesday to thee! :

That would be a fun day! Maybe we could go together and see who could buy the most in an hour. :)

Oh WOW! What a swell idea that is! I'M IN! Oh the things we could do in that day. OK. Since I'm a positive person and I perceive that the same is true for you let's figure out where we'd start. I mean we could shop part of the day in the ritziest area of where you live and then spend the rest of day shopping in southern California...Beverly Hills has some awesome stores on Rodeo Drive! Never bought anything in any of them in fact I've driven by and never even been inside one! Oh wait. There was one store years ago called The Cheese Store. I don't know if it is still there but I did go inside and oh my if you are a Foodie it is the place to go..or was if it no longer exists. I think I might have purchased 1/4 lb of some imported cheese.  It was decades ago. We could renta jet for the day. Thanks for the great idea LC. Who knows? Stranger things than that have happened! :) You do believe in miracles don't you? :) ((hugs)) This post was edited by RosieG at December 26, 2017 8:36 AM MST

I live in a very small town in Tennessee, not much around here but Dollar Stores and fruit stands.  If we had all the money in the world to spend this one day, let's take your jet and go to Paris, London, Italy and wherever the winds take us. We need to think bigger than just shopping local, but Rodeo Drive sounds like it should be our first stop. Lunch is on me, of course.

If London I'd want to go to Harrod's. I've heard that is very upscale and ritzy department store. In Paris it would be the Eiffel Tower and the Arch de Triomphe and any cheese shop or boulangerie. In Italy it would be Rome and that famous fountain. What about you LC? Oh and sweetie  if it's Rodeo Drive where we'd have lunch I'd want to host (hostess?) lunch. I mean I"m a  Californian and Rodeo Drive is a  California landmark so it would be my pleasure!  Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday! :)
