Yup.  I have seen this on other sites.  Politics especially seem to bring out the divide in people.  It seems to get real personal and downright hateful with some.  I don't know why.  Most of us have the same ambitions in life when you get right down to it.

You know Pea Pod years ago on Twilight Zone (I think it was on that show) there was an episode that was so TRUE about humans. There were two groups of people who hated each other bitterly. The only difference in their outward appearance? One group was Black on the right side of their bodies and White on the left side whereas the other was White on the right side of their bodies and Black on the left. That was it! Silly as he** if you think about it. Same thing with humans. It's as if they search for any reason to dislike others rather than searching for reasons to like them. I'm gonna ask why? Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! :)

I actually remember the story, but could you being thinking of an episode of Star Trek?  it was one of the few episodes I saw and thought the theme was pretty thought provoking.

    Happy Thursday Rosie!

It could definitely be Star Trek honey. Thank  you for your reply PeaPod. It was a very thought-provoking and true-to-life depiction of the stupidity of mankind. Being identical mirror images and finding a reason to hate what they see in the mirror which is them, of course. As Walt Kelly said "we has seen the enemy and they is us"! :(

My husband has referred to that episode more than once when we talk of how society behaves.  It really hit the mark and makes you think.  We are all guilty of being bothered what we really don't like in ourselves when you really think about it.  If more could see that and be aware of that, it would be a better world imho.

We have the best neighbors in the world m'dear. There are some folks who stay to themselves and we respect that. But we have a next-door neighbor and two across the street( a couple in one home and single gal in the other) on whom we can always count to be there if needed and they can always count on us. It's a retirement community so maybe that's why. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday Lulu'sMom!  :)

Hahahahahahahahaha! Geez my third "engagement" of giggly laughter! I dunno PC. Bat-sh** crazy folks scare the stuffings outta me. I try to stay clear of them. I think only very BRAVE folks would get anywhere near them. Do we get braver as we age or become more fearful? I'm gonna ask.Thank you for your reply and the nifty graphic! Now that is one brave dame! :)

I have found that being obnoxious has no set age.
Obnoxious people comes in all ages.
I have seen some pretty obnoxious children as well.

True that LulusMom. But it seems , at least some of the time, that old age is used as an excuse to be rude. Children might not know any better.

Often times when older people are being rude it's because they are not as patient with others who are acting like fools as they used to be.
Everyone has a right to defend themselves, some just have a different way of doing it.

:):):) I find it particularky obnoxious when some go out of their way to insult standard folks like you and me. Politicians ask for it and deserve. Everyone else? Not so much. But rude comes in all  sizes and flavors and labels and fragrances or stenches. Oops. I just thought of another question! Sorry for the intrusion Lulu'sMom but I wanted to give you my 2 cents' worth!  :)

I'm glad you liked it. I got a kick out of it myself.

I can't speak for everyone, but I've gotten braver over the years. There's no point in being meek.

  • I think the reasons why people try to control or moderate the speech of others varies greatly.

In Western culture slander is illegal, a suable offence because it can ruin a person's relationships and livelihood.

Proverbs 15 (the King James Version) says

15 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.

A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.

A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth reproof is prudent.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge: but the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

10 Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth reproof shall die.

12 A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise.

18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

22 Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

24 The way of life is above to the wise, that he may depart from hell beneath.

26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

31 The ear that heareth the reproof of life abideth among the wise.

32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.

I think these sayings suggest that the Bible advises that speech is capable of powerful social influences for either adverse or beneficial effects in relationships and society. They suggest that wisdom, care and responsibility in speech is important and valuable.

The Buddha defined Right Speech as telling only the truth exactly as it is, but only in the context that it causes no harm. He recommended the avoidance of rude, angry and/or aggressive people.

Mohammed, taking from the Mosaic commandment not to take God's name in vain, prohibited all forms of blasphemy on pain of death.

China allows but strongly discourages any form of faith, and prohibits any kind of campaigning for democracy and freedom of speech.

Traditional Australian Aboriginal law forbids any form of speech or action with another who is not of the right "skin", a means of preventing incest in necessarily small communities.

Liberals and social activists who campaign for change in language are attempting to create respect for all individuals irrespective of race, gender and other arbitrary characteristics that frequently indicate, cause and reinforce disrespect, prejudice, open hatred and violence.

I think some people are control freaks, and having that addiction, do seek to micro manage how others express themselves - but I think that reason is less often the motive for speech control that all the other hundreds of reasons.

Wow Hartfire this is some very meaty and very nifty reply! I just asked a question about getting away with anything as long as you add "allegedly" or some other disclaimer. I think we have a right to think what we think and say what we say and do what we do. There are consequeces to all of that and we OUGHT to be able to admit that responsibility and not try to deny it or transfer to others or lie about it. Now would I PREFER that some folks not think what they think or say what they say or do what they do? Of course. Would I ever try to control/contain/muzzle them? No. So why are there so many folks out there who do work hard to muzzle others? I don't get it! I'd rather there not exist racists and bigots and haters. But they do exist and they have every right to be what they are. SIGH. As do I and you and everyone else too! Thank you for your response m'dear and Happy Thursday! :)
