Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» I do not get the sending of gifts on Answermug. How do you do it? Why do it? What does it represent? What do you do when you receive one?
I've gotten a few PC and I don't know why or what to do in return. At least I should thank the folks and I haven't. Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday m'dear! :) Maybe I'll just do a blanket thank and ask a question about it when I do! :) ((hugs))
You know how on AB, people got points and those points gave them rank? You earn credits here, and the system keeps track, but instead of getting rank, you can give credits to friends or send your friends gifts with them. The gifts are just fun silly things you can use to brighten their day.
Gifts you’ve received show up in a special section of your profile and you can feature one on your avatar on your profile.
i believe you can send them by visiting someone’s profile page, but you can for sure do it from “gifts” which appears below “muggers“ in the main menu.
If someone sends you one, you can send one back or just tell them thank you.
I've gotten a few out of the blue and I never know why or what to do. Thank you for your reply JA So do I have credits? How do I find out how many? Does it derive from when others "like" a question/response or does the sysstem automatically confer them as I ask questions? Happy Friday JA! :)
Just about every action you take on the site gives you credits. You get them for logging on, for asking, for answering, etc. You also get credits when people "like" your content, and you get them for liking content too.
Your credit count appears on the home page in the right column, along with what your site-wide rank is for total earned. If you go to the "Muggers" tab in the menu and hover over it, "credits" is one option. When you select that, it takes you to a page that lists everyone by how many credits they have. Glis is #1 now. You're 17. I'm 19. At the top of that page, you'll see a little gray submenu as well- it says "credits" "home" "my credits" and "FAQ." Clicking on "My credits" will take you to yet another page that shows a "transaction" list indicating how you've earned and used credits.
Rank as determined by credits isn't particularly meaningful, though, as people can give theirs to others, I can award credits for any or no reason at all, and people can purchase credits with real money. For example, I think everyone who migrated from our old site got 2,000 credits or something similar right away. Newcomers don't normally get that many to start, but an active member can earn enough credits in 1-2 days of activity to give a gift... just a way to spread more positivity. At some point, I may integrate other uses for credits. Perhaps the most-active users will get extra features or credits will enable people to purchase real goods from a shop. Right now, they're only good for virtual gifts to send to other Muggers.
Thank you for the detailed explanation JA. I never meander around Answermug. Perhaps I should. What I do is just show up and start asking questions that occur to me and then attempt to reply to as many respondents as I can (except the ones I always ignore because all they do is insult)
You earn credits via your participation in AM, i.e., by asking and answering questions. Just under your avatar is a tiny dark grey dialogue icon with 3 white dots in it. The number of credits you have appears just to the right of the dialogue icon. You buy the gifts you want to send others using some of these credits. Some gifts are free. Others come in a range of different prices. There is a variety of different kinds to suit different moods, occasions and relationships.
I found that when a made a received gift public, but later wanted to take it off my avatar, I couldn't work it out. There probably is a way to do it but I'm not IT savvy. Instead I ended up changing my user name and avatar image, and that worked.
Actually, the number by your avatar in the Q&A represents your total number of posts. Your credit total is 2,996, with 1,396 unspent. I found you buy going through the list of everyone.
To remove a gift from your avatar, you'll hover over "Muggers" in the main menu (mobile users will click the gray arrow next to "Muggers"), and then select "Gifts." The top of that page has gray writing that says "Virtual Gifts" "Browse Gifts" "Inbox/ Sent" and "My Gifts." Under "Inbox/Sent" you'll see all the gifts you've received. The one on your avatar will be highlighted. Below it, you'll see four icons- The second from the left is a green checkmark. Clicking that will remove it from your avatar. You can also "decline" a gift and remove it from your list entirely by clicking the red minus sign on the left.
