I wish I were closer because I love lemons. I have a plum tree in my back yard, we could trade. :)

Geez I love plums! Well maybe one day you'll be traveling my way or I yours. Our son and daughter-in-law .visited us from Arizona a couple of weeks ago and took back with them THREE HUGE BAGS of lemons. The tree looks as if it wasn't touched. I do not say this in jest. What I have to do is  juice many of them before they rot and I freeze the juice in small plastic containers. Then when I run out of resh lemons I just defrost one of the containers and you can't tell the difference tastewise..  I was in the market yesterday and they were charging 79 CENTS EACH for large lemons. Seriously. The sad thing is there is NO SUBSTITUTE for lemons. Bottled juice is gosh-awful. So we have a deal then for a potential exchange some future date? Cool. Thank you for your reply LC and Happy Sunday to thee!  :)

Have you tried using ice trays to freeze the juice in? After it's frozen, remove the cubes and put them in a zip bag. It's great for when you just need a small amount. You're correct, nothing is as tasty as fresh lemon juice. I would love to have citrus trees, but our climate is not right to grow them.

Yes I have. I prefer the small plastic round containers that hold 8 oz. I can thaw it in the same container and we use a  LOT of lemon juice in salad dressings and I especially love it chicken noodle vegetable soup. We use a lot of ice cubes during the summer too so I don't like to tie them up to freeze lemon juice plus which is can be a pain in the keester to get them for some reason. I use a LOT  of lemon in my soup bowl. But ONLY for chicen soup. It's way too lemony for Jim so I just add it to my bowl and he adds what he wants to his. I do take them out of the containers when frozen and put then in 1 gallon freezer bags. Then back one goes into the 80z container when it's time to defrost. In fact I still have a few left in the freezer from last year's crop! We never ran out of lemon juice and I never  will!

It's my default soup if I'm feeling a little puny. I cut up some carrots and celery and simmer them in Chicken stock. Then I add penne regate pasta and when the soup is ready I can eat tons of it! Jim likes his chicken soup with chicken in it so I always have a few cans of organic chicken on hand that I use to make chicken salad. I open a can of chicken and put it in his soup. I like my chicken soup chickenless!  Of course you know chicken soup is thought to be very good medicine when you have a cold. Just add lemon juice to it to taste and I'll tell  ya it tastes so heavenly. Merry Christmas to you and yours Lost Child and I hope the New Year will be better for everyone on every level! Thank you for your reply m'dear! :)

I wish I could come and get some lemons from you.
I would freeze some then grate them and use them in food. They are great cancer fighters like that.

I wish so too honey. That's what I do. Squeeze zillions (slight exaggeration) of them and freeze the juice in 8 oz. plastic containers. Then I just take the container out and let it thaw and just like magic we have fresh lemon juice. It tastes exactly the same as if you had just squeezed a lemon! Thank you for your reply Lulu'sMom and Merry Christmas Monday to you and yours! :) ((hugs))

  • Sorry, I'm in NorCal. We do have a lemon tree here at my parents' place, but most of the lemons were picked this summer. Only greenish ones on the tree now.

I guess there are different varieties of lemons Nevan. Ours get ripe around the end of November and we have tons through early spring and then they go away. Then almost simultaneously you see blossoms on the trees and tiny new little lemons forming from them! It's miraculous! One year we had really high winds when the blossoms were on the trees and the winds caused them to fall to the ground. That year we had very few lemons. Thank you for your reply Nevan B and Merry Christmas Monday to and your family! :)
