Hahahahahahahahahah! Funnee hunnee! Well I sincerely appreciate that when you show up you answer the questions I ask. If you want to go off on a rant/riff (civil of course) after that be my guest. But at least answer the question which you do for which I thank you. Anyway the questions I ask don't usually have "right" or "wrong" answers. I mean sometimes folks who are very knowledgeable about something do provide info I didn't know about but mostly I'm asking for opinion/perceptions. What it "seems like" to you. There are right/wrong answers to math questions or questions about science or history or whatever. But opinion? How can they be wrong when they are mere conjecture/pondering/supposing? Another question is born!Thank you for your reply tom.
Well, if you drew a circle of any size and labeled it as "truth," not all opinions would fall into that circle---but some definitely would.
So, we can reasonably infer from that, that some opinions must be right and some opinions must be wrong---and perhaps some are partially in the circle and partially outside it.
On a practical level, God either exists or God does not exist---so we can also reasonably infer that some opinions are definitely wrong.
Of course the problem is how to decide which opinion is true, which contains some truth and some error, and which is completely false.
I have found personally that with the appropriate early training of the mind with regard to the difference between logic and reason, as well as a knowledge of the transcendentals and other ideas and principles that have withstood the test of time, and a certain amount of experience, "truth" tends to show herself to those who appreciate her for who she is.
I think you must be a very astute/brilliant person tom. I'm not joking! I cannot tell you how often I have believed liars. In my personal life. It is not something of which I'm proud. I take folks at face value and figure they are telling the truth until proven otherwise. I suppose I'd rather be that way than the opposite. Disbelieving everyone until they prove otherwise. On the other hand if it's a sales pitch I never believe a word of it! I figure folks will tell you anything they have to tell you to convince you to part with your money or your vote. So I guess I'm both. I'm a sap for believing liars and I'm a tough cookie for never believing sales people. There ya go! It bites me in the a** more often than not but still I am ever hopeful that folks start off with the truth because I cannot figure out why they would lie to ME? See? I'm hopeless! If something makes sense to me I buy it. It it doesn't I don't. But liars very often will tell you tales that make sense. So how d'ya know which is which? I think I'm too old to change and even if I could where do I start? SIGH. Thank you for your reply.
In some areas of our society you are entitled to have an opinion, differing or otherwise. That doesn't apply to the workplace, public venues, such as restaurants, bars or taverns sporting events, or to most colleges and universities, including my own Alma Mater. I would name it here, but I'd run the risk of issuing a "personal attack". Let it suffice to say it is a major university in the Southeastern US. Also, one dare not test the waters on this site, lest he be chastised like a five year old for having a legitimate opinion that runs contrary to some users here. Yes, I've been wrong as most human beings have been in a lifetime. But, I admit it, unlike many who cannot recognize fault within themselves. Now here's the disclaimer. The preceding opinion expressed here is the opinion of the author and not the expressed opinion of other users either living or dead, right, wrong or indifferent, substantiated or unsubstantiated. The author recognizes that this is a forum that bears no resemblance to free speech and that he will catch an excessive amount of hell for bothering to answer the above question. Such is life.
