Unless you suffer from aphasia or you are a liar, what you say indicates what you are thinking and how. Doesn't it?

My stepdad was in a terrible auto accident and became aphasic. I could not understand a word he said but my mom was able to figure it out. Ever known anyone with aphasia?

  • Usually, but not always.
Some people are just not very articulate.
For instance, my husband. He talks in vague terms because he thinks in vague terms.
He will qualify sentences with terms like maybe, possibly, perhaps, I'm thinking I might, a bit, a few, several...
He rarely names a time or place unless directly asked.
He mixes his tenses within one sentence so that one has no idea whether the thing he mentions has happened, is happening, or is yet to happen. He has immense difficulty making choices and decisions.
It is frustratingly difficult to live with, but since he seems unable to be any clearer, I have had to learn how to ask the questions needed.

Oh goodness that would be difficult for me as well Hartfire. My Jim is not a fast thinker nor is he a quick decider. It can take him forever and day to decide what to order at a restaurant. He is methodical and I think has an engineer's brain. He is very detail-oriented and fascinated by how things SHOULD work. Me? I'm slapdash and fast. He likes things to work at optimum level and gets very frustrated when they don't. I don't even notice. If something works kinda sorta ok I'm good with it and I can move on. Different approaches to the world. I always say if you want something done fast give it to me. If you want it done right let Jim do it!   Thank you for your reply Hartfire! :)
