I don't think so Rosie. Although we have no control over the environments we are raised in and that will shape us to a certain extent, we can all change what we are at some later date.
What people can't control, and a central reason for why 'anti-establishment' is currently popular, is what happens to them once adulthood arrives. Within a human lifetime populations have seen their importance and their welfare relegated in political and economic decision making to something bordering on contempt. I would happily admit that the truth of that statement can be debated, but regardless of the outcome of that debate, appearances are important and people will act on how they feel.
That this is how people do feel can be seen in support for non-establishment politics the world over - including extreme and sometimes terrorist organisations. It isn't surprising that if people consider themselves to be ignored and treated contemptuously, they respond with contempt. Trump's support is, I think, predominantly based on this rejection of the political establishment and the status quo.

I don't blame his supporters, I blame Trump himself for being so manipulative with desperate, gullible people. He can completely control how he comes across. He's a showman! It just slays me that the very people who are his biggest supporters are the probably the same ones Mr. Trump would NEVER hire in one of his companies.
I have changed my mind completely on this issue. I have been going about all wrong. I truly believe that Trump is a victim of mental illness and it is getting worse. He has no concept of what he is saying or doing. None. I don't think it is intentional MrWitch. He cannot help himself. Someone close to him should have him thoroughly examined by a top-notch medical doctor and psychiatrist. He may have a brain tumor. I'm deadly serious. I think he cannot stop doing/saying increasingly bizarre and erratic things. So my questions will change. I cannot keep attacking someone whom I believe to be mentally ill. As for his followers m'dear. I stand by my comments. They are what they are and they find value in places different from you and me. They are limited by their perceptions as we all are.

It's just a conclusion I reached today. Thank you for your thoughtful and thorough I answer. We don't have to agree for me to acknowledge the thought that went into it! :)
Not if you are mentally ill Baba. You have no control if you are psychotic or suffer from any one of a myriad of mental illnesses/diseases. I believe Trump is mentally ill. I believe his followers adore him because they are limited by their perceptions. That
is all life is. How we perceive it to be. You may disagree. Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday! :)
You like what she said. What about the mentally ill LC? What control do they have? I believe Trump is mentally ill. His supporters are victims of their perceptions. Life is what we perceive it be is it not? They perceive it to be other than what his detractors perceive him to be. How can you fault them for that? It is not
purely intellectual. It is also emotional. That's just my 2 cents worth.
I believe he is mentally ill and cannot control what he thinks or says LC. I just came to that conclusion today and so I shall be asking different questions. I cannot attack a person who is so clearly and obviously out of control. I think it is getting worse. A TV host said he has known Trump for 10 years and never ever seen him like this. This person called Trump UNHINGED. He is. Which means he has no idea how to stop saying what he says. I rest my case. You can continue to blame him. It makes no difference to me. I just see things very differently as of now. Thank you for your reply.

Although I suspect you may be right in the assessment of Trump as having a kaleidoscope of psychological failings, I do not view that as absolving him from responsibility.
To me he seems a small boy, still trying desperately to garner the praise his father didn't give him. With daddy dead, acclamation will have to come from elsewhere and this is pretty much all I see him doing. This idea is, I think, supported by his tendency to attack those he believes should be supporting him far more than his actual opponents. Ultimately, I think it's rejection by 'friends' that he has such a hard time with, at least in part because it is a reminder of his father's treatment of him.
That's rather sad and pathetic really, but I'm not sympathetic on this issue because I do not think having such a flawed personality qualifies as actually being mentally ill. Certainly, I believe no court could absolve Trump of responsibility for a serious crime based on him not being aware of his actions.
I think he's very aware of his words and actions. He may even be aware just how warped they are by his desperate need to be praised, though I doubt that. Regardless, for me he doesn't get a free pass. :)
We disagree. I think he has been operating off the reservation almost from the beginning. He knows not what he does or says MrWitch. In my opinion.

It's too "unhinged" and erratic and weird. Thank you for your thoughtful reply! I guess time will tell how long he can survive on this track. :)
