  • Yes.
I did well in ancient history because I was intensely interested in it. I found the development of the law in Greece and Rome had a strong influence on the development of our laws in Western countries. I also found it interesting the way history repeats itself when we fail to be aware of it and learn from its lessons.
As a young woman, I had a chance to travel with Mum around Europe, including Italy and Greece. Seeing the artifacts in museums and the ancient ruins, brought home to me how evidence is the bedrock of our history.
What we do today determines what is likely to happen in future, whether we know it or not.
I believe future researchers (if life on the planet survives global warming) will be particularly interested when government and legal documents run past their secrecy dates - much will be explained.
Future generations - I'm not so sure. Given how few people pay attention to history now, I think probably future gens will be the same.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply Hartfire and Happy Saturday to you! You were very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to other lands with your mom. I've been to Tijuana, Rosarita Beach and Caliente, Mexico  and Wndsor, Canada. I knew a couple who owned race horses and they invited me to join them to go to Caliente for a race. We stayed overnight. The other places were just daytime trips. The only place I've been that was not on the North American continent is Hawaii where my son lives and that is not a foreign land. So my personal experience of "being there" isn't there. Travel to foreign lands just wasn't in the hand I held. Most people aren't interested in anything beyond that which affects them NOW. More's the pity. :(
