Nothing self-made about that. The zillions of folks who worked to make him prez will probably never be known. He did nothing except be there at the right time with "the right stuff" (so easy to manipulate because of his Achilles Heel. He will roll over for anyone who compliments him and do anything. Everyone knows that which makes him the perfect lump of clay to shape ).

  • What exactly does Oprah Winfrey being a self-made billionaire have to do with Donald Trump being President? Your analogy, following your main question is flawed and frankly, makes no sense. Hatred does that to some people. It keeps them from thinking correctly and logically. Also perhaps you should do some research on Oprah Winfrey. Her dangerous stupidity has done a lot of damage over the years.

Not true.  Don't think you know much about more well-off families.  Plus your attitude seems to suggest that all of us who grew up well-off somehow don't count in life.  But most of us who grew up let's say comfortably very much imbibed from our upbringing a sense that we somehow must be able succeed as well or better than our parents on our own. So for many of us there was quite a lot of pressure to do well in life.  My father founded a tool company that became very successful and still exists today though under another name.  Both my brothers became equally successful in business - my older very much in competition with my father's company, my youngest as a pioneer in computer business models.  My husband's father was a successful lawyer who went into state politics and later worked in the White House - he did not become a lawyer or politician but started a very successful environmental solutions company.  Being a girl I was not expected to do well I business but just to marry well which I did not when young and instead rebelled and got into drugs and communal living etc. But maturing I realized I would have to earn my way in life so took  secretarial and computer course and lucked into a decent job with an industrial firm where I have worked for almost thirty years now.

Now there are certainly people who just take their family's money and spend it but the way many of us grew up we were supposed to make something of ourselves on our own as well as be responsible to our community.  Now many people understand that and respect that - if you don't then perhaps that is why we often feel more comfortable among people who have gone through what we have had to which causes them to understand more.  And I will tell you when we get together we don't spend our time hating you of those who perhaps have or grew up with less than we did but rather we try to make the best we can out of what God has given us in our lives for ourselves and our community.  And we try to insure that others will have as many opportunities to do the same.

Being self made doesn't mean you achieved success completely independently without help. All civilization comes from cooperation with others.

One of the things that makes a person successful is having the qualities that motivate others to help you / work with you. That is a personal achievement, since most people lack such qualities.

Being born into wealth is a great advantage in many ways, though it can also causes problems of its own. Children born into wealthy families often just fall into laziness and achieve very little. It is still a personal achievement to have the necessary motivation to become even wealthier. The child of a millionaire who becomes a billionaire has personally achieved something. It takes vision and passion for what you do. The left always try to claim greed is what motivates people, but it's simply untrue for wealth above a few million dollars. Their material desires are covered. The super wealthy are driven by something else.

Trump isn't a self made millionaire but he is a self made billionaire. The left always try to minimize the achievement of individuals. It's pure envy and weakness. This post was edited by Zeitgeist at January 8, 2018 1:37 PM MST

No one is an entirely "self-made" success. Unnamed people also help an individual succeed, such as those who offer opportunities, extend credit, work behind the scenes, provide support (financial or moral), etc. Many other factors come into play, some beyond an individual's control. Timing, serendipity, changing societal trends, laws passed or rescinded, economic shifts, and more can mean the difference between success and failure.

Many successful people have experienced failures/bankruptcies: Abraham Lincoln, Ulysses S. Grant, Thomas Jefferson, William McKinley, Walt Disney, P.T. Barnum, H.J. Heinz, Milton Hershey, J.C. Penny, and Henry Ford among them.

Family wealth does not guarantee success. Some 70% of rich families lose their wealth by the second generation, 90% by the third. Trump has grown his inheritance.

I fail to see what Oprah's success has to do with Trump's.

A tweet subsequently deleted by NBC Entertainment, which said it was sent by a third-party agency.  Of course, Hollywood and the press are running with it.
