Some might, but a lot of those I know won't fall into such a trap. Luckily they show great personality too.

  • They often rely on looks to begin the conversation. When the other person discovers that the talk is mostly about the one who is attractive, it usually signals the end of useful conversation.

  • I find most people attractive on a physical level and it's just random luck whether they can walk and talk at the same time or not

  • As I saw it expressed one time ... guy to date ... I've talked about me enough, now you talk about me

Can a blind person carry on a conversation with someone very unattractive? I don't see what looks have to do with anything. I guess as I get older that is no longer an issue.

  • Let's turn this around. It's tough to have an intelligent conversation with someone that is obviously "checking me out".

I had an accidental meeting with someone online yesterday. The guy read something I wrote somewhere else and sent me a message that was very well composed and said that what I wrote was interesting and that he basically just wanted to say hello. So, I wrote a paragraph or two back and elaborated some more, then asked him some questions about his thoughts on the subject. Instead of responding to my questions, he sent me his photo. I didn't respond right away and he sent out two more messages within an hour or so saying things like "u didnt like?"

D: He went from flawless conversation to textspeak and discussing only his appearance instantly. Apparently, I suck at communication, because I responded with something along the lines of "I thought another letter was coming that answered some of the questions I asked you." His next response was more textspeak. "I guess u didnt like" or something. So, I very tactfully (or not so tactfully) told him he was attractive, but that he could look like Gollum and it wouldn't matter. We're online. All I care about is hearing thoughts. His final message back told me I was boring. lol

I feel so lost. Why the heck did he bother trying to start a discussion if all he had was "Look at me. I'm  pretty?

I'd like to say this is an isolated incident, but it's not. Maybe there's just a high number of narcissists with tender egos online? Maybe I'm just incapable of holding a discussion with people today?

    *sigh*

Anyway, thank you for your response, my handsome and conversational knight.
