It would have blown over. All he had to do was admit he said it and apologize. Why does he have to do things the hard way?

So day after day we are up to our eyebrows in "SH**". He denies it and lies about it and has others deny and lie who were in the room and heard him say it. As a result the SH** is getting stronger legs. Maybe that's what he really wanted. To keep it alive and in the news. SIGH.

Arguing about whether he lied or not is pointless since there is no way to prove it either way. Though for the sake of argument, let's assume he did say it, or something completely equivalent.

No, it wouldn't be over if he apologised. That is a lie. Apologising for political views is what weak servile people do. If he apologised for disrespecting sh*thole countries by calling them sh*tholes, that would only further embolden his enemies to make more accusations and more demands. All the leftist scum would smell that weakness like sharks smelling blood.

The false accusations of racism would still be there. The left would then demand he apologise for being racist. At that point he would have to deny being racist and refuse since that's not true. So he would find himself in the same position, just having weakened his moral authority by pandering to his enemies.

Making any concessions to the left in the hope of deescalating conflict is foolish. They give no quarter and they should receive none.
