    No.  They are just slaughtered for no reason at all.  It is disgusting.

    When they are no longer in their prime, their fertility drops.
    By that age, the flesh is tough,
    so it may sell as meat for stews or pets.
    The whole carcass is used, including the hide for leather and hooves for glues and gelatine.
