I have. And it made me feel proud that they work in our neighborhood. We want our kids to once again think of cops as being one of their heroes, as well as our firemen.
Spread across ratios headed, 'Good', 'Bad' and 'Could Do Better', the police I've encountered have probably landed as 20%, 10% and 70%. Some go the extra mile. Most are just doing a job. And some should find a different job.
Yes. As a Public Safety Diver I watched LEO's and Firefighters take great risk to help people trapped in water or floods.
Not county police or state police, a ton of them can be narcissistic jerks.
Interesting. The opposite is the case here. The locals tend to be overbearing ( a few) and the Sheriffs deputies and State Troopers are very professional .
Hello M:
I dunno if admiration enters into the equation, but I do have a story to relate.. I was behind a cop car at a stoplight when a black fellow walked up to the cop. He put his hands together with his fingers pointing at the cop like it was a gun, and then made like it went OFF. Unbelievably, the cop IGNORED him and drove off..
Now, at the very least, I thought the cop would have jumped out of his car and thrown him on the ground, or even shot him.. I don't ordinarily complement cops, but THIS guy did a good job.

Our kids have always seen cops in a positive light. Even if you pull off the road for a few minutes say to check your written directions or answer a call, chances are a cop will pull up and see if you need help. There are a lot of them here.
