I'm not a football fan, but I am rooting for the Eagles because my sister lives in Pennsylvania and because they're the underdogs and because I really don't like Tom Brady.  Happy Sunday. :)

Makes sense Spunky. Well the Eagles won so your sis is happy and you're happy because she is happy. That's fine. You win some you lose some. I'm not particularly fond of Brady but I support all things Massachusetts.  The Bruins, the Patriots, the Celtics. You name it I root for them. It's funny my son was born in West Concord, Massachusetts but he supports or did all thing Los Angeles. I'd be rooting for the Celtics and he and friends would be rooting for the Lakers. Thank you for your reply m'dear and Happy Monday!  :)

Well I have lived in MA for over 30 years and occasionally even before that and really don't care either way.  The Patriots have won I guess several times so maybe time for some other team to win.  Which I know sports are all about winning but I think also about playing the game so whatever.

Tom Brady worships Trump.  That's what was all over the internet and now it is finally saying differently.  The Coach of the Patriots is a Trump supporter.
    I rooted for the Eagles.

Because of this I had serious misgivings about any goodwill towards Brady.   But it seems that it may not be true.  I think Tom Brady is the best quarterback I have ever witnessed.  GOD he is amazing.

I was happy for the Eagles since they have not won a Superbowl for about 50 seasons or something like that.  They played HARD.  They were great and the Patriots were great.  It was a really good game.

I hope Tom Brady has come to his senses.  He is just amazing.

During the run up to the 2016 presidential election, there was a lot of focus on the New England Patriots, in large part because of close ties between quarterback Tom Brady and then-Republican candidate Donald Trump. Brady, who repeatedly pointed out that Trump was a good friend of his and he supports his friends, once had a "Make America Great Again" hat hanging in his locker.

Brady would eventually decline to elaborate on who he voted for during the election and, since the election, has had some instances where he stepped back from the support of Trump.

His wife, model Gisele Bundchen, said publicly that she and Brady did not support Trump, and Brady has called President Trump's words directed towards NFL players over anthem protests "divisive." Brady did not visit the White House and Trump did not mention him in a speech at the event.

And apparently all this bothers President Trump. In a lengthy profile by Maggie Haberman, Glenn Thrush and Peter Baker of the New York Times that dropped over the weekend, the Times reported that Trump remains miffed that Brady has not been enthusiastic in his support of the sitting president.

"Mr. Trump still takes shots at Mark Cuban, a fellow rich-guy reality star, and expresses disappointment that Tom Brady, the New England Patriots quarterback, has distanced himself," Haberman wrote, via Michael Hurley of CBS Boston.

Perhaps this should not be surprising: Trump repeatedly mentioned in public how he was friends with Brady and at one point cited a handwritten letter he received from Bill Belichick. He has talked about and supported the Patriots in the face of controversy, criticizing the NFL for pursuing a suspension of Brady during the Deflategate saga.

But Trump has also been hyper-critical of the NFL this year, saying that NFL owners should fire players who kneel during the national anthem. The result of his early-season comments were a league-wide reaction that involved statements and protests against the president, even from people who voted for him during the election.

President Trump has been, according to reports, very excited about how his feud with the NFL has "really caught on."

Brady, for his part, usually spends the NFL season locked into one thing and one thing only: pursuing a Super Bowl. He's at it again this year, although the Pats stumbled a bit in Miami on Monday night, and he is not likely to talk about or comment on the president's feelings during the run up to the NFL playoffs.

All of that, plus Brady backing off his support for Trump after the election, could certainly lead to a feeling of distancing. And it has, according to the Times, led to Trump being upset about the situation.

Thank you for your lengthy and comprehensive reply Sharon. I did not know any of that. I support all Massachusetts teams. I do not particularly like Brady as a person but maybe his wife has helped him come to his senses. Some of the Eagles players are considering not going to the White House because of the attacks doofus don has directed toward the NFL. I say the whole team should rebuff him. I sure as he** would. You couldn't DRAG me to the White House if doofus were prez or pay be enough. I ope their integrity kicks in and no one shows up. Of course if that were to happen doofus don would rework to seem to be his idea that they turned him down. We will see what those guys are made of.  Hopefully! :)

American football isn't really a thing in Australia, in fact I find it soporific (and this from a CRICKET aficionado). An American neighbour of mine let everybody in the street know what was going on, though - cheers, groans etc from his house. It seems that everybody who wasn't specifically a Pats fan was rooting for the Eagles, mainly due to the "underdogs" thing and the fact that the Patriots have won enough already, it was somebody else's turn (my neighbour is a Vikings fan).
