Too bad the Founding Fathers weren't more enlightened. They'd have made slavery ILLEGAL and women men's equal rights-wise. Dark ages?

They were limited by the times. Rich white privileged men who might have been very intelligent/educated but were not very compassionate/caring. Too bad they were only as good as the times in which they lived and not ahead of their time. Isn't it?

Just the kind of argument now being used to dump the Constitution and Bill of Rights and take away our freedoms. Are we all so more enlightened  these days?  Just because we hate and our jealous of others who have more than we have?

Not really the dark ages but the times they lived in were tough. Due to the fact that they were in the process of establishing a new country, they knew that it would take time to right the many wrongs that existed. They also knew that it would take time and effort to try to keep such wrongs from happening again. They weren't enlightened beings or gods, they were just men and women who made the same mistakes that you and I do. They eventually abolished slavery and the women eventually got their equal rights. Nope, it didn't happen over night. Few things do but but I'm thankful that we have the country we do now. Wouldn't wanna live any place else. :)
