A priest can't disclose the confession of a murderer, right? He also can't provide safe haven to an immigrant. Does that make sense to you?

The sanctity of the confession is inviolate, right? The sanctity of the church used to be inviolate as well. Now  you can be silent about a murderer but must not give sanctuary to an immigrant who is innocent of anything except being there without papers. Seems illogical to me. Doth it seem likewise illogical to thee?

Well they are two different things.  Confession is private - between one Christian and another.  While in sanctuary you would be publicly harboring someone who broke the laws.  And I think what a priest can or cannot do would be a matter of whatever policies his superiors or diocese  have in place.

Anyway there are hundreds of towns and cities that have declared themselves "sanctuary cities" where they give harbor to such people.   Including btw the town in which I live.  But if I heard of any such goings-on I would immediately inform the federal authorities.
