US population as of 2/22/18 is 325,946,332. It is estimated that 1/3 of them own guns. Per the NRA membership is 5 million. WHY?

Why isn't every gun person a member? It is after all the protector of gun rights, the speaker of all truths and the only thing between you and being gunless...or so it tells you. How humiliating for them that all of  you aren't members. Now why is that? Why don't you support the elephant in the center ring of the circus of politics? The main show? Why do you publicly turn your backs on it? How could you be so disloyal?

    Right now I don't have the money to join, but I fully support them just as I support other gun rights organizations.

    So is it very costly to be a member BR? Why I ask is because it seems to me that 5 million out of a  possible 100 million people (if true that 1/3 of all  Americans own guns) is very small. What benefits do they give you? Like auto club membership provides tow service if you buy that coverage. Do you pay yearly dues or just a one-time charge?  Politics aside it seems to me that gun owners would want to join a group of likeminded people whose views are similar.  Thank you for your reply and Happy Friday.

    It's not that expensive- I've been a member in the past.  It's just that right now I can barely pay my credit card bills, let alone anything else.
