It's a step in the right direction.  I respect any politician that isn't afraid of angering the NRA.

I think the tide may be turning. Private companies are dropping their affiliation/association with the NRA. Mutual of Omaha will NOT renew its contract for the NRA credit card. Those companies who stick by will get the black eye and be tainted/labeled/excoriated/vilified. Hopefully. Thank you for your reply PeaPod.

Me too. Rick Scott is a  rigid right Conservative Republican but the tragedy happened in HIS state and so he has no choice.  The teens would mow him down and shout him down and verbally attack him. He is just a coward as are all NRA-purchased pols. If it had happened in another state the guy wouldn't have blinked an eye. Thank you for your reply Lulu'sMom! :)

SOunds not bad, but there's still the people who go mad after they've got the guns.

The mentally ill are already barred from purchasing firearms, under federal law.
It's right on the form you have to fill out, when you apply to purchase a firearm.

When the doofus don took over from President Obama the doofus signed a bill RESCINDING the Obama law about making the getting of guns by the mentally ill FAR more difficult. When was the last time you read the form Walt? Maybe they're too cheap to change it but I think that was almost the very first thing the doofus did since the NRA contributed more money to his campaign than they did to any other politician. Besides the doofus don supporters are all fanatic addicts when it comes to THE SECOND AMENDMENT. That is the only part of the Constitution about which they give a sh**.Thank you for your reply and Happy Saturday! :)

No, the Obama law would have took 2nd amendment rights away from anyone on SS who uses a designated payee. Congress repealed it before it went into effect. Now if the gov wants to investigate whether or not they should have a gun they can do that properly through the courts.

It's not a law that was passed under Obama ... it is on form 4473, which all legal buyers of firearms must fill out as part of their background check.

#11-F: "Have you ever been adjudicated as a mental defective OR have you ever been committed to a mental institution?"
Anyone who answers "Yes" to that question is prohibited from purchasing OR receiving a firearm.

It is also a federal felony to lie on the form.

So if everyone is following the law ... the mentally ill would not have access to firearms.
Of course, criminals don't follow the law.  That's why they are criminals.
And the military doesn't follow the law.  Because they believe they are above it, and protect their own.  (LV shooter)
And the police don't follow the law.  For the same reason as the military.

All these new laws about taking firearms away from people, on the word of family or friends ... those are unconstitutional.
How?  They violate the 4th and 6th Amendments.

What Rosie is talking about is a law passed by Obama arbitrarily removing those on Social Security and also have a designated payee as being "mentally defective" in the NCIC database.
The law was to take effect in Dec 2017 but the Rep Congress repealed it and Trump signed it.

This is not about form 4473.
