So I wonder why the donjohn et famille continue to rely on DUMB? It doesn't work. Makes things worse. Desn't solve the problem. Costs tons of money. Wastes time. Dumb sure has a lot going for it doesn't it? Thank you for your reply and Happy Tuesday JacobA. I think you might enjoy the response Shuhak gave. Unless you already read it please do so. It will be worth your time. :)

Now wait a minute.  To be fair, let's think this through.

    1) We arm teachers with weapons.  That way they can "fight back" against any perpetrators (i.e. someone with gun, knife, etc.)  HOWEVER, we only arm teachers that know how to fire a weapon (x-military people, weapons experts and such).  That's good, as we'd hate to have a novice trying to figure out which end of the gun the bullets come out of in a real-life situation.  Plus, having every teacher "gun certified" would be a tad bit costly (Lord knows how many initiatives are put on the ballot begging for more money for K-12 schools).
    2) Now as everyone knows, the fewer places an intruder can come in from, the better the chance a teacher (or law enforcement) has of subduing them before they can inflict damage.  To do this, schools will need to install barriers or high fences around the school or classroom parameters.  In fact, many schools already have these fences/barriers in place.
    3) Of course, it's always best to spot an intruder BEFORE they can get onto a campus.  Unfortunately, most school campuses are flat, which makes spotting anyone more than a few yards away difficult.  As any military person will tell you, the best way to spot a potential enemy early is to be on (occupy) high ground.  Now, raising the elevation of school campuses isn't very feasible.  However, by placing tall towers (turrets) on each corner of a flat campus, a person in these turrets could easily see any perpetrator long before they had a chance to infiltrate and inflict damage.  If the people in these turrets were armed, they would be able to take out the threat before it became a problem.

So, now we have a structure (or structures) enclosed by high fences and barriers with armed guards in turrets located at each corner, with a few select armed individuals inside so that everyone inside will be safe.   Congratulations, we've just built a prison.  By all means, let's put out kids in prisons and let the ones who commit the heinous acts roam freely outside.

You had me going there for a minit Shuhak. I shouldda known better. The logical sequence of the progression to your inevitable conclusion is perfect! I don't see how it could have been any perfecter so I thank you for it. The shooter comes in with an AR15. What weapon does teach have? Teach hasta have it on him/her. Not locked up somewhere requiring a key to open the in-class gun safe and load the gun. By then teach is splattered all over the classroom walls as are the kids. So shooter takes out teach first. Even if teach is wearing an AR 15 on chain around her neck shooter has the element of surprise in his corner. Or armed guards rush in and shoot anyone holding a weapon. I like your prison idea. It's cleaner, bloodless and quieter. I have heard that the noise emanating from such a gun as an AR 15 is earsplitting and almost painful. Now do we have any empty prisons standing idle and unused? Convert them to schools. Save some money. But I think we already can't keep up with incarcerating the guilty can we? That's why we have early releases and shyster lawyers who get the guilty (wealthy guilty) off and mush-brained juries. I dunno. I just talked myself in circles and I'm right back where I began only everything is spinning around. Wonder what grand and glorious day today will be courtesy of the donjohn prez?  Happy Tuesday! :)

If you don't want teachers then we need hired armed security. We thought an officer in the school would work but FL showed us that they don't have to go in.

Everything else we value in our country we protect, we use guns. Banks, jewelry stores, celebrity, politicians, planes, etc....except our kids.
