How important is degree of hostility to individuality? Is it essential to one's persona or could it be extinguished without harm?

Some folks seem to really enjoy their hostilities and look forward to exposing them and nurturing them and servicing them. Different strokes!  :(

    No matter how much we conform to what others expect of us our individuality still exists.  I suppose many people just want us to conform to their norms or what is comfortable or understandable for them and if we don't there might be some hostility toward us.  But of course we will never be able to please everybody so we get used to that being a part of life.
