The President has control over tariffs.

GOP can get over it. We have gotten the short end of "free trade" for far too long.

  • "Free Trade" is a term that if it weren't so sad it would be downright laughable. Countries have been writing their own tickets with us for 40 years and thanks to one sided "trade agreements", they've had their way. Enough is enough.

Free trade essentially means that I can buy a product that has been produced at the cost of the raw material used in the product plus production costs and a profit to the producer and seller.

Now Trump wants to increase the cost of a product that includes imported steel by 25%---some major portion of which I will now be required to pay---my American made car, for example.

Why doesn't someone who supports tariffs explain how this benefits me.

I protects American steel. EU has tariffs on our cars. We should return the favor. The amount it will effect a new car is said to be a whole $150.00 not much compared to the price of a car.
Free trade should not have tariffs but that only works if everyone plays by the same rules.

Let me rephrase my question: "explain how this benefits me"

Include your understanding of "elasticity of demand" and how it applies to the net effect of a tariff on steel and aluminum and he American economy.

Feel free to wait until you take a few courses in economics before you answer.

    WE?

Do you have a mouse in your pocket or something?

Who is we?   I realize you may have been around in the 50's because that is where you and TRUMP are stuck.  IN TIME.   WE=YOU+Trump or as we like to say on here "MY 2".

Paul Ryan indicated that they were still trying to get Trump to back down.  He indicated that overriding Trump is a possibility, but they are not working on that yet.
