    I'm strongly in favor of states' rights.

    However, immigration is one of the items that I agree is a federal matter that supersedes a state's rights.
    Otherwise, we would have 50+ sets of immigration rules.
    You could be a legal citizen in Oregon ... cross the border to Idaho, and you're an illegal that can be deported to wherever they choose.

    From what I can tell ... the federal lawsuit is over state laws the prohibit officials from volunteering information to the feds.
    I don't know if you can legally tell somebody NOT to "volunteer" information, that is a matter of public record anyway.
    But all the feds have to do is request the public record ... or get a warrant. 
    Hell, sounds like an opportunity for more federal jobs, to me.

    Well doofus don is suing the state of California and AG Sessions went off on it and about it so self-righteously it made me wanna barf! Different strokes Walt. In the olden days churches used to be sanctuaries.  Priest and nuns never were attacked. Now there is no safe place anywhere for anyone no matter the circumstances. I think it sucks. It is disgusting. America is a nation of immigrants. Trying to erase that past and pretending to be holier-than-thou and ever so patriotic is bullsh**! If all the immigrants were drop dead gorgeous armcandy Swedes d'ya think the doofus don wouldn't want them here? I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! :)

    It is about CA for some reason wanting to keep criminal illegals in their state. 
    There are some very violent ones they protect. 
    One guy was arrested for abusing his girlfriend. CA told ICE and gave them a whole 25 minutes to come pick him up. After they lef him out, he got into another fight with the girlfriend....he murdered her. 
    There was another who had been arrested for assault and rape but they let him loose as well.
    These are the people they are protecting and in the process endangering their own citizens.

    So weird that has become such a fad for so many people.  Like they see it as the epitome of "doing good"!  Well I live in a so-called "sanctuary city" (actually town) but if I hear of any illegal activity I'm calling the Feds.

    No, immigration laws are left to the Federal government according to the Constitution.
    If CA doesn't want to comply then don't complain when Federal moneys for law enforcement dry up.

    I think we should have unification of all states.   I think they should all comply with allowing immigrants to have the same rights they have always enjoyed.

    There is no place in America for people who do not welcome immigrants.   It's silly.

    We don't need to fight over this.  You don't like it?  YOU MOVE.  Not the people we have invited here.

    Indeed. I am a very proud California Liberal Democrat Sharon. Very proud. My head may be bloodied but it remains unbowed. Where did I hear those words before? California is giving the very well-deserved middle finger to doofus don. Dems have had a supermajority here for years. Republicans are very weak. Very loud. So loud they squeak. But it don't mean a thing. They are impotent. California isn't a BLUE state for nothing! Thank you for your reply! :)
