China is gonna target Trump's base by targeting Farm Belt states where US agricultural exports are. Red states. Fair right?

Very thoughtful that they don't plan to target blue states. This is part of the consequenced of being a donjohn supporter. You're up to it, up for it and don't think anything about it right?  Good for you.

In 2016, the top 10 agricultural producing States in terms of cash receipts were (in descending order): CaliforniaIowaNebraskaTexasMinnesotaIllinoisKansasWisconsinNorth Carolina, and Indiana. These and related statistics can be found in ERS's Farm Income and Wealth Statistics.

Notice which state is first on that list?

    What's your point?

Iowa, Nebraska, Texas, Kansas, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Indiana are all red states.  California, Minnesota, Illinois are blue---so why would Trump care about the blue states.

And tariffs are based on the exported goods of a nation, not on the internal divisions of that nation.

I once read a comment by someone on one of these sites who stated that he had "approximate knowledge of a great many things."

Was that you by any chance?---No, sorry, it couldn't be, I remember the gender of the person that stated that was male.

My point is CA is very blue and they are the largest farm producer in the country. So China is not very targeting so well.... (that was the topic of the question...not about Trump caring about blue states)

Our 35 year old thanked me today for having taught him to communicate clearly with others and to call people on misdirection.

Let me just suggest that pointing out that California is the major contributor to total USA farm output contributes little to the understanding of tariffs (which are arbitrarily imposed) and trade balances, which are the free markets evaluation of the appropriate price of a product and its value to those who purchase it.

The questioner is saying the tariffs are being aimed at red states...I am just explaining that agricultural states are not only red states...in fact some of the major ones are very blue.

California is the largest farming state in the country...strange to be rooting for something that will hurt your state.

How are they going to do THAT?

    Why do they CARE?

They want to bury us, not help the nicer ones.

But what about farm belt states that are blue? There's a great deal of agricultural activity in, for example, California, Illinois, Michigan, and New York. Did you know that there are many Amish farmers in the Finger Lakes region in central New York (upstate) and that the state's largest university, Cornell, is home to CALS, the New York State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, whose academic focuses are natural and human systems; food, energy, and environmental resources; and social, physical, and economic well-being? Cornell's CALS is regarded as one of the premier Ag schools in the nation.
