The charges against Assange are blatantly politically motivated. I believe the women accusing him are liars and almost certain work for U.S. intelligence.
As soon as the U.K. is no longer subject to the European arrest warrant, he will be able to leave the embassy without being arrested.
However the U.S. may simply make an extradition request of its own. While the U.K. is under no obligation to comply, I certainly don't trust the British government not to extradite him. If I were him I would still take up the Ecuadorians on their offer of asylum. He will be never be safe from western intelligence.
