Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» If YOU had to fire someone how wouldja do it? Long-distance? Phone/tweet/text/telegram? Or wouldja do it in person like a REAL MAN/WOMAN?
I would do it this way. I would send a letter that they would understand was a preclude to what will be a face-to-face meeting.
I would explain that I was doing this so that I did not make the person I was firing feel attacked. I would lay out the reasons why I felt this firing to be necessary and I would do whatever else was necessary to part company in a respectful manner.
That is what I would do.
I would explain, let the person have time to digest and come back in a timely manner, with what they feel they would like to express. I would give them a sounding board and let them talk, and then we part ways so that both parties understand what the other intended. In PRIVATE.
Kind of like Tom Selleck does as Captain of the New York Police Department in Blue Bloods. Ironic that this show, which gives excellent pretend advice about how to conduct oneself in the toughest of situations, does it by portraying the crookedest type of character, the New York City Police Officer.
They are such heroes on this show and the higher up you go, the more noble you are. LOL
But he does give sound advice as a boss. I like him in the show. Not as anything reality- based though.
I certainly would not tweet it for spite because I am so powerful you can do nothing back, the way PUTIN... I mean TRUMP did to his staff.
This is a man out of balance with reality or TV. He is FOXED. He drank the Kool-Aid and he is in it to LOSE it for all of us.
I remember Tom Selleck from the time he supported the NRA at some rally. When he guested on the Rosie O'Donnell show she asked him why he did that and his reply left much to be desired. I liked the character he played in that Hawaii-based show. I have watched Blue Bloods and I very much like all the other characters. He is the face of the NRA to me now and always will be. I don't watch the show because of him. I watch it despite him. Different strokes. I have fired people before Sharon. There was no warning that I gave that it was happening. I called them into my office and explained the reason. The door was closed. I did not berate or humiliate or browbeat. I simply told the truth. The person was not doing the job we needed done in a way that was acceptable. Were feelings hurt? Yes. Of course. No one wants to be fired. But a company is in business to make good products, serve its customers well and be profitable. It must employ competent people who can get along with one another and pull together and cooperate. Period. So that's what you have to do when something isn't working. Different strokes. Thank you for your reply! :)
