One's tears don't always have to be a result of something they did.  Tears can also come from something they feel, such as passion.  Many of my tears come from such passion.  I realize that only a few people can relate to this, but sometimes I pray so hard for a friend that I'm actually crying.  Those tears aren't from laughter or despair, but from deep passion (love?).  And those tears fall on almost a daily basis.  Oh, I've cried from laughter on numerous occasions (I've even caused many a person to shed tears of laughter).  I've also shed tears of despair more times than I wish to count (enough to fill a small lake).  In life, tears of happiness are fleeting, while tears of despair seem to have no "off valve".  However, tears of love and passion should flow more often and in greater munder than both those of happiness and despair combined.

Very true. The hardest I've ever laughed in my entire life (to the point of a stomach ache)and was brought to tears was on an episode of the Carol Burnett Show. She makes a "ball gown" out of drapes and come regally down the staircase having used the curtain rods which she placed on her shoulders to hold the fabric up. If you saw it you'll know what I mean. If  you didn't using mere words to describe it will never do it justice. I cried when my dad died. A lot and often for about 6 months. He was young (55) and I was 20. When people we love pass on it's hard not to weep for our loss. I cried July 25, 2017 when we had to put our beloved cat  Tigger down. We had him for 12 years. He was a stray who adopted us. He got cat leukemia. Why I don't know because we religiously made sure he got all the shots he needed. SIGH. Of course when I  cut up onions it bring tears as  well. Stinging tears. I guess tears are one of the ways we vent. In the pressure cooker of life it's that little thingy on the top that pops up so steam can escape. Otherwise the pressure cooker would explode. Thank you for your thoughtful reply and Happy Easter Sunday Shuhak. This post was edited by RosieG at April 1, 2018 2:32 AM MDT

I've seen it many times.  I liked that show - especially Tim Conway.
"Onion crying" really isn't crying.  it's the bodies defence system kicking in (much like when you get a speck of dirt in your eye).  Technically we 'shed tears'  24/7.  When we don't our eyes dry out and its really uncomfortable.  Due to the tear ducts leading into the sinuses, we don't usually notice these tears. its when the tear ducts are overwhelmed we call it 'crying'.

I never thought of crying as a pressure valve.  Interesting.

Laughing. Screaming. Shouting. Crying. All releases after which you should feel better. The only time I shout/scream is at the politicians on TV. They are the only ones who deserve it. I use especially unsavory language and it makes me feel better. Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

I've read many reports claiming that using "foul" language is a way to release energy.  (Like when we hit our thumb with a hammer)

I use epithets and asterisk them because it's more satisfying to me to say he** than heck or dam* then darn. I don't indulge in real bad stuff though. You can't asterisk it enough to make it acceptable. I do say chickensh**. Usually directed at pols. Beyond that I would not go. My dad used to say "a sholeh sheck" or "donzy goat". We are of Armenian descent and while I never knew what the former meant I did know that the latter meant PEAR STEM! I'm not kidding! It sounds really bad doesn't it? It's laughable. Oh and sometimes he would call someone a "jessack" when he was driving. We knew it meant jacka** and we thought (my younger sister and I) that it was so cute of daddy trying to make it so we didn't know it was an epithet.  Thank you for your reply Shuhak! :)

I'm a very emotional person and it shows. People know when I feel a certain way. Any tears lately? Yup, just last night I was watching something on the computer that got the happy tears flowing. :) This post was edited by rusureamisure? at April 1, 2018 2:31 AM MDT
