I have lots of happy memories from childhood, like sneaking into the kitchen at night around Christmastime and eating all of the Christmas cookies out of the jar! Our cookie jar was a big fat old western style sheriff and his hat was the lid. Somehow I don't think that was mom and dad's fondest memory from my childhood.
Another one of my happiest memories from childhood was bath time! I loved bath time! Then one day dad told me I was old enough to give myself a bath and I was totally crushed so then I just pouted and didn't want to take a bath.
My brother went to a boarding school in another state and my happiest memories were from the trip home because we always stopped at the restaurant that delivered food to your table on a model train! That was also kind of a sad memory because my brother was absolutely miserable at the boarding school with lots of bullies there.
I hope when my kids are adults that I made plenty of happy memories for them!
You never know what what kids will remember about their childhood when they're adults but I don't want to be remembered for something like my husband's grandmother did! She was remembered for "Don't get your clothes wet!" She had a thing about not getting wet so hubby had to forego lots of childhood joys like playing in the rain or jumping in puddles so he married me who enjoys those things!

Thank you for such a lively and happy share Liv. Sadly not everyone has happy childhood memories and of course you can never invent them retroactively. Both my younger sister and I had a happy childhood too and remember so many specific incidents that we recall. Having siblings is a blessing because they know you so well and share long-ago memories that only they know. Happy Wednesday m'dear! :)
* Family vacation at the shore. We stayed in a beautiful little cottage that was only a half block from the beach. It belonged to a friend of my parents and we got to use it 2 weeks every summer. The sound of the ocean at night, the gulls in the morning, the sun and the waves,...such a wonderful experience and one I could never recapture as an adult.
* Christmas was always a very special, wonderful time. My mother decorated the house, made cookies, and traditional music played. Christmas morning was magical, especially the early years of my life when I believed in Santa Clause.
* Summer time picnics, swims, hanging out with friends, sitting on the front porch on a hot summer night with my dad...
I have told my children about my happy memories. I would hope they would be able to answer this question on some level.
What a lovely and endearing share PeaPod. I pictured what you told us in my mind's "eye" and it was joyous and joyful and I'm so happy you have those memories. I'm sure your children will have such warm and loving memories too of their time with you. Thank you m'dear. I just had a wonderful time reading about them vicariously! :)
You are sweet Rosie. I treasure those memories because our family was turned upside down when my mother left us all and life was never the same. There was a lot of pain leading up to that and life was not that wonderful at times. No need to revisit that of course. I just learned to hold on to what WAS wonderful.
I hope my kids have good memories too, but I was not in a good marriage when they were young. I always had to work, so I am sure they have their complaints. But I did the best I could with what I had and eventually made up my mind to change the course of my life by getting divorced and then meeting a good and kind man that was and is a joy to be around. Unfortunately, that didn't happen until both kids were grown.
