Some serial killers abused animals when they were kids. Do children ever outgrow being CRUEL or do they just get meaner as adults?

BAD SEED. A movie with then child-star Patty McCormack. An evil child. Is there such a thing as that in reality? Are some just born bad and get worse as they age? Defective DNA?

  • I like to the think most of the time people like that treat others that way because that's how they were treated or taught but in a few cases I do think some people are just born bad.

There's a saying that "hurt people, hurt people" most people don't become abusive unless they experience abuse themselves and continue the ugly cycle.

Thank you for your thoughtful reply Chickie. So they "pass it on" so to speak.  They can't hit back at the ones who abused them so they start a new cycle of abuse with innocent people. Kinda evil but also kinda sad. Happy Wednesday to you! :)

Any child that abuses an animal for pleasure is surely damaged somehow.  I know very little about if kids like this are ever rehabilitated.  I have always had extreme compassion for other living creatures, long before I was even noticing how my parents treated animals.

As a kid we had a cocker spaniel we adored. I was totally unaware of the plight of abused animals and only as an adult did I find out that some animals live terrible lives and are ignored, abused, tortured, abandoned. I can't watch those commercials on TV that feature those adorable pets with the so-sad eyes...some of whom are shaking. I don't understand people who abuse other people who can fight back and hold their own. I REALLY don't understand those who abuse animals and children who cannot fight back. Thank you for your reply PeaPod and Happy Wednesday! :)

We had cats, a dog, gerbils, fish, and many other creatures we cared for.  I understood they felt everything we did at a very young age.  The first creature I ever shed a tear over was a little firefly that I put in a jar for a night.  He died the next day and I wept.  I remember it so well.

I too cannot watch those commercials.  It makes me feel a real rage at human beings that do harm to an innocent animal.

There seems to be a pattern with most serial killers such as killing or abusing animals, starting fires, and bed wetting.

If anyone sees these patterns in their children or someone else's children, it should be brought to the attention of the powers at be.

  • I didn't know bed wetting was a symptom of one of them but I heard of the rest then again I don't know much about serial killers

It is a subject I am interested in and have done a lot of reading about it and watch a lot of Discovery ID.
It is chilling when you see that they can be so normal on one side having families and active in their communities and being a great neighbor. And total monsters on the other side.

Same here Lulu.  I can't read enough about the psychology of such people.  I guess we want to understand on some level, but it's impossible to do.  I just concluded that many are simply born that way since many do come from decent families.  Not all of course.  We all know some people come from horrific circumstances and go on to do great things with their life.  I think there is still a lot to learn.

I don't think it has anything to do with their family life.
There have been studies on the brain pattern of serial killers and they are different then normal people. So they are probably born that way.

The bed wetting surprises me Lulu'sMom. I wonder if it is because if they do that when they're older and are teased about it might that be a cause? The ads they have on TV featuring animals that have been rescued just break out hearts. We can't watch them. The dogs ALL have such sad eyes and some of them are shaking. How anyone can abuse an animal or a child is beyond my understanding. Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday! :)

The bed wetting is an interesting factor.  I am not sure why that is common with them.  They also tend to set fires at a young age.

Of course that does not mean that all bed wetter's and those who are cruel to animals will grow up to be serial killers. That is just a couple traits that some do have in common.
There are some who may do neither but still have the compulsion to kill.
