Which is harder to believe could be true? Supporters who believe everything a liar says or those who don't and don't care? WHY?
If you KNOW someone lies about everything all the time and you still "believe in" him/her what does that say about you? That you are a liar too and admire the breed?
Nobody knowingly believes a lie. Some people are innocently deceived by lies. Some people have consciously chosen to lie to themselves, but deep down they know what they are doing.
People lie to themselves because their ego can't face the truth. For example, leftists deep down know they are dirty inside but their ego can't take this. They need to invent a virtuous pretext for redistribution of wealth (theft) etc so they can pretend they're not fallen little creatures. They need to see sin in people who are infinitely more virtuous than they are, because they just can't face reality.
Some people are simply following the herd. They don't truly believe or disbelieve what they're being told. That would require thought and they're just sheep. Their beliefs are an identity they have chosen to associate themselves with, purely for reasons of social conformity. For some people everything is etiquette. Their political beliefs are no different than their belief that one should not burp loudly in polite company. They're just following convention.
