Discussion»Statements»Rosie's Corner» CSI/NCIS were popular TV shows. Was it due to the gore? How was the gory depicted there any more acceptable than gory horror movies?
I'm not sure what "CIS" is, but I've watched NCIS and the two spinoffs since their inceptions. I don't find any of them to be overly gory. I'm not a fan of horror movies. I used to watch Criminal Minds, but the longer it was on, the more explicit the gore and I've not watched it in a long time. Occasionally, I'll catch a rerun of an old episode. I think I read that was the reason Mandy Patinkin left the show - he didn't like how explicit the death scenes had become.
CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) was the first of the genre and was set in Las Vegas with an actress named Marge Helgenbrenner(sp) as the lead female and the lead male was a William someone. It was a very good show but gruesome. Thank you for your reply. I think Patinkin was very diva-like and left other shows as well. Never really liked him. I like Joe Mantegna (sp?) though. The lead guy who never smiles used to be on a delightful show about a sober straight-arrow guy married to a breath of fresh air..Jenna Elfman played his wife. In Criminal Minds he is dull and boring and I read that he causes lots of problems on the set. I guess no set is perfect. Thank you for your reply L ! Happy Trails to you until we meet again! :)Apologies for having written it wrong originally. I did show CIS but that's wrong so I made it right. I think NCIS is Navy Criminal Investigation Scene or something close to that. I like the original female lead. Then I LOVED the gal who replaced her The character's name was ZIVA. When she left the series it lost a lot with her departure. I tried to watch the new show "BULL" that Michael Weatherly, the DiNoso character, left the show to play but I didn't like it. It is allegedly based on the career of Dr. Phil who used to be a jury reader for lawyers to let them know which potential jurors would be more sympathetic to their client and which to avoid. I just watched it once. That's all I could take.

Oh, right, Crime Scene Investigation - duh! I watch the reruns of that and I liked it best when Petersen was on it. Ted Danson was OK, but I never liked the woman who was Marg Helgenburger's colleague. She had this sing-song way of speaking and was too whiny for my taste. The show was gory in that they showed a lot of autopsy footage. What I mean by gory is showing the actual murder. I can use mi imagination when the shot shows someone raising a crowbar to know what's coming next. I don't need to see the actual hit.
Yes, Patinkin was a diva and has left other shows. He's on one called Homeland, but it's a cable station I don't get. The guy who played Hotch was fired because of some physical altercation with a cast or crew member. I liked him but always found his character too grim. I do like Joe Montagna.
