There are a few books you can read to help you understand what is happening in the world. Yes, things are happening. They have been happening for a long time---since the end of WWII. Even before the war, the US had been the leading industrialist in the world. Those who determined American Policy knew the US would emerge as the first global power in history, so during and after the war, they planned how to shape the postwar world.
You can read all about this in a book "How the World Works", by Noam Chomsky. It leads up up to where we are today and why we think we still have to rule the world. Then read Chimsky's new book "Who Rules the World?" He poses the next question "What principles and values rule the world?" This is especially to the rich and powerful ones who enjoy the legacy of freedom, privilege, and opportunity thanks to the struggles of those who came before them and now face challenges of human import.
We're all just grains of sand with a short life, live what you know and enjoy it! Do what you know and give it your best and be as happy as you can, forget the rest. Whoa!!!
