    Programmers do it too. it is called 'narrowing down the error margin'. sometimes they ever do it with random course changes (and then check to see which side of the line they landed on) that is called 'drunkards walk'.

    Yes.  This is mulling, fretting, or brooding.  How many times do we make a quick decision and then decide we should consider it a bit more.  We struggle and think of every possible outcome and, in the end, go back to our original choice.  I'm not saying we should never do this.
