Some people have phones, pads, laptops and desktop computers. Some even have multiples of these (I'm guessing for the same reason that some people have multiple houses?).  Why, some refrigerators now have the ability to connect to social media as well (Samsung?).
I, for one, am not made of money.  So I have just one device (hint: it's not a phone).  I don't "connect" to anyone, although some Nigerian Prince keeps wanting  to connect with me... something about winning a lottery??  ;)

It seems so odd these days Shuhak. In the olden days you'd hear "please call me" or "I'll call you". Period. One device. We have a landline and a computer. I use both. Jim has TWO cell phones. Both are SMART. One is pretty old that he is phasing out and he has a new one he is phasing in. Oh. We also have a SMART TV. SIGH. He has laptop that he doesn't use but will one day when he gets around to it. I wonder how we survived when I was a kid? No cell phone. No car phone. No computers. Nothing to plug into your ears to which you would listen. The computer I have is a desk top model. It's like an original cast recording. Nothing subsequent to it appeals to me in any way save one...mobility. But I'm a homebody and the only time I couldda used a mobile computer was in 2008 when I had an operation for cancer and was in the hospital for 4 days and then at the hospital multiple times for chemo and radiation. for many hours for six months. However that's way long ago. But I digress. The more mechanical electronic electrical thingies we can't live without the less human we become. Or so it seems to be to me. Thank you for your reply and Happy Monday. Oh. I have 3 refrigerators. I'm a foodie and cook alot so that multiplicity appeals to me! :)

Yes, how DID we survive as kids??  We had to play outside (no TV).  We had to use our imaginations (no device doing it for us).  We had to actually talk to other people - either face to face or over the telephone (no facebook, no texting).  We had to go to the library and read books to get our homework done (no Google).  We carried an "emergency phone dime" (or nickle) so we could call home in case something happened (no cell phone - just the corner phone booth).   Music came via an AM radio (no ipod, no "cloud").  (In my area) if you wanted something big or special (stereo, bike, record, etc.) you either used the Sears-Roebuck or Montgomery Wards catalog (which took up to 2 weeks) as the nearest store was over 100 miles away (no Amazon.com).
I just have a desktop computer too.  Ok, I do have a Smart TV.  Can't use it much though, as my internet provider choked back the bandwidth and charges you fines if you go over their (limited) data allotment (but they still upped the price).  Thanks a lot, Mr. Trump!
I have just 1 fridge (although it's a big one). But it's almost always empty.  I used to have a freezer in my garage, but thanks to lousy wiring it blew up years ago (my entire house wasn't/isn't grounded properly).

Boy oh boy m'dear did you ever bring up some nifty examples of "the good old days"! When I was a kid our Saturday family outing was to Sears. You could buy everything there but food. Clothes, appliances, kitchen gadgets, linens, tools for daddy, toys, furniture. You name it Sears sold it. It was our weekly adventure. We had a Monkey Ward catalog and a Sears Catalog as well and also would visit Monkey Ward often. When we went to the market I remember the following cereals. Corn flakes, Cheerios,Wheaties, Rice Crispies, Shredded Wheat, Cream of Wheat and Oatmeal. No sugared colored fancy dancy teeth-decaying cardboard trash. I do not remember frozen foods although there may have been some. In our freezer we had ice cream and ice cubes. If there were other things I don't remember them. Oh. And there were a few cans of frozen orange juice. We bought fresh veggies which mom cooked (sometimes overcooked). We'd go to the butcher's for meat, the vegetable stand and sometimes a bakery. Everything else we bought at Market Basket. Many fewer choices. Now I could spend two hours in the cereal aisle alone reading ingredients these days. Is that progress? I don't think so. However on the other side of the scale I am finding more and more nutritious foods. Whole grains, low or no sugar, low salt or no salt, organic . You used to have to search high and low and go to pricey "health food" stores for healthy foods. Now even Walmart has many store-brand ORGANIC choices. So it is heartening to see that trend as it is disheartening to see more new crappy cereal fighting for room in the cereal aisle! You win some you lose some! Thank you for your reply! :)
