Overprescribing meds is a serious thing for a doc but if they are just sleep aids and not narcotics why is that so bad?

Would that be considered "malpractice"?  I mean if it were opiods or something damagingly addictive that would be different. Can you get addicted to sleeping pills? Ever take them? Do they leave you groggy the next day?. I took one once and I did not fall asleep the entire night. Weird but true. So I never took any again.

Some persons do respond with the opposite of the intended purpose of a medication. Prescribed sleep aids can be addictive, but so can OTC ones. I take an antihistamine (diphenhydramine or Benadryl) for itchy skin. It is also a great sleep aid so I only take it at night. I don't accept scrips for that which I can purchase OTC. My insurance won't cover them anyway.
