NO WAY you're gonna believe this. Gotta share anyway. Any "Statistics" experts out there? What are the odds?

Hemet, California is a very small retirement community. Jim went  in today for a first visit to a dentist in Hemet . I went too because he is Armenian like me. A rare thing to encounter these days. After the dentist saw him I was asked to come in and meet him. He is young enough to be my grandson. We chatted a few minutes! Here is the part that is friggin' weird!
I was married in an Armenian Apostolic Church named "St Gregory's" in Pasadena, California in 1958. HE WAS MARRIED IN THE SAME CHURCH many decades later. What in the he** are the odds of that? Anyone have a clue? I still cannot believe it. It is so way too weirdly odd. But there ya have it! Ya never know whom you will encounter. AND in the waiting room I sat next to a gal who turned out to be Scorpio like me and we shared so many similarities INCLUDING  both skipping two grades in grammar school and entering 7th grade at age 10! What are the ODDS of that? She was similarly painfully shy as a child and a loner. I mean c'mon! This day is a day I shall not soon forget. Would you? Have you ever experienced anything remotely like that in all your borned days?

The odds probably aren't as "far out" as you'd expect.

After all, in a room of just 23 people there's a 50% chance of two people having the same birthday. In a room of 75 there's a 99.9% chance of two people matching.

What about the odds of a guy young enough to be my grandson living and working in Hemet, California having been married in the very same small Armenian church in Pasadena, California many decades after I was married there? Across time and space. Think upon that m'dear and tell me what are the odds of that  Walt? Thank you for your reply and Happy Wednesday!  :) This post was edited by RosieG at May 2, 2018 2:41 PM MDT

I'm sure somebody could do the statistical probability on it.
All I can guess is it would have to include the number of total marriages there during that time, and the general movement of those couples through the world.  LOL

I'm still boggled by it Walt. One small church in the relatively small town of Pasadena, California. One small town of Hemet, California. Many dozens of miles apart though both in southern California. Many decades since I've even been there. Maybe it's because I'm always looking for connections between this and that. I also get amazed pretty easily.  But still and all I'm 80 and he is grandchild age! We've been going to a dentist in Riverside where we used to live. About 30 miles away from Hemet. A couple of weeks ago Jim was chatting with  our neighbor friend and the subject of dentists came up. Bob (our neighbor) gave Jim the card for the dentist and praised him as being a VERY GOOD dentist! So I guess there is some randomness in that too. I dunno. I try to find meaning in things that are probably simple coincidence or happenstance or serendipity. Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday to you m'dear! :) Thanks for trying. I appreciate it! :)

I met a woman in Norfolk Virginia who went to school with my oldest sister many years prior. Most recently, our baby sister found us 56 years after our mother told us she died at the hospital.

That m'dear sure beats my experience to a pulp! Imagine how much fun you will be having futurely with the kid sis?  As for her I'm sure she must be over the moon about it! I like happy endings Ele and serendipity and happy middles as well. Who doesn't? That new-found sis is beyond serendipity. I wonder what the odds of that were for her? Finding all of you? I've always been fascinated by the "odds" of things. Chance or happenstance or fate?. How do they figure out things like odds? Thank you for your reply Ele!  Oh I just had a random thought. I think it qualifies as random. You decide. Jill's husband (if she has one) wouldn't be named Jack would he? Thank you for your reply! :)

Actually, she was found by a cousin we didn't know we had. How she knew my sister, I have no idea, but with a DNA test and her birth certificate with mom's name on it confirmed it.

    That's interesting.

Although Armenia is starting to give freedom of conscience and worship, I would be nervous about living there after the history of abuses by representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

You are aware of the Armenian genocide at the hands of the Turks are you not? It happened many decades ago in April and the Turkish government to this day refuses to acknowledge it. Many countries worldwide HAVE acknowledged that genocide by proclamation however sadly and disgustingly the United States is not among them. Turkey is their ally and they don't want to anger Turkey. So they by omission commit a terrible injustice/sin . Every April young Armenians protest and sometimes riot. All they want is acknowledgement by Turkey of the horror they perpetrated and they will never get it. Now as for whatever you refer to I'm unaware of it. I will check it out. SIGH. Truth is not of any value to America when it goes against their own interests. That is evil and disgusting and unforgivable. Happy Friday.

That's terrible. Protesting and rioting is not the answer. Just think if all religious leaders really followed Jesus, there would be no injustice. So many put their faith in armaments rather than God and fight for their view of paradise now. Apparently, mostly Islamic Turks did it to mostly Apostolic Armenians and mostly Apostolic Armenians did it to others.
