Is respect one of those things that is a two-way street? Can you respect someone who doesn't respect you and vicy versy?

Should respect be a two-way street? Yup, but it's not always so. Can I respect someone who doesn't respect me? Sure I can. Everyone is imperfect but I gotta be careful not to let their failures erode my respect for their good qualities. I can find something to respect in almost anybody if I look hard enough. Most importantly, for me, as a Christian, the Bible says, “For in the image of God has God made man” (Genesis 9:6). Whether or not someone is a Christian, I should respect him or her as God’s creation. :)

What if it is a "Christian" who supports a womanizer/liar/saboteur/traitor? Do you still respect? You can label yourself anything you wish. That doesn't make it so. Thank you for your reply ru! :)

First of all, not saying there aren't any, but I don't know a Christian who supports a womanizer/liar/saboteur/traitor. Second, I can't control or worry about what someone else says, does, or is accused of. I can only control and worry about what I say, do, and think. Third, yes, there are still some traits that I can respect. If it turns out they have absolutely no admirable traits that I can respect, I still respect them because they are a creation of God. I wanna say this, however, don't confuse my respect with trust. I can respect a person's positive traits but still not trust them. I've known some people down through the years that I've respected because of certain admirable traits but I wouldn't trust them any further than I can carry a bulldozer. :)

Every single "Christian" Trump supporter does. All the Trump-loving Evangelicals do. I don't understand your saying that when all around you they surround you. Or do you choose not to see? Thank you for your reply ru. They "look the other way way". They "ignore" what is and pretend everything is hunky dorry. There are MILLIONS Of THEM. How could you possibly not know that? :(

Respect used to mean simply that you understood what a person was saying.--it came from re and specio, Latin for back and look; and it meant you had a clear understanding of what a person was proposing.--

At which point you could agree, react with horror, esteem, or admire---as you deemed appropriate.--

    Now "respect" implies approval--

Once again, we have increased the extension of a word and decreased its comprehension---and therefore rendered it pretty much useless.
