I did, to an author - neither a criticism nor a compliment, just a question. He did reply.

I think I told you I wrote a very lengthy letter to John Steinbeck and have a postcard from him written on both sides in his own handwriting which I treasure. His postcard was dated May 9, 1964! He is my favorite author. What I wrote was many pages written on both sides of 8-1/2 x 11 lined notepaper and I sent it in care of the publisher of his latest book. I have all of his books. What I wrote was about life and how I wished I had been part of the gang about whom he wrote in his early books because life seemed so much more honest then and simpler. I never expected anything from him so when his card arrived I was in shock. It started out "Dear Rosemarie and ended with "Yours, John Steinbeck". I still am in shock! His words were beautiful and meaningful and I will always treasure them. Thank you for your reply Sbf! :)
