LOVE/HATE. GOOD/EVIL. Humans are capable of very best/worst. Which reaches higher heights and deeper depths? The capacity to love or hate?

The capacity to love reaches infinitely higher.

Our capacities to love and hate are not equal.  Our capacity to love far excels our capacity to hate.  When we look around or watch the news all we see is a world filled with hatred.  People hating other people simply because they’re different from themselves - their skin color, their religion/beliefs, their politics, their rituals, their language, their dress… the list goes on and on.  Sometimes we hate people simply because they hate other people (I hate haters).  Our hatred can become so intense that we’ll actually kill other people simply because they don’t act or conform the way we think they should.  It’s no wonder we think that our capacity for hatred is boundless.

Yet when things seem to be as dark as they can get, love shines forth.  Natural disasters (earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, and so forth) wars, school shootings, accidents (car, bus, train, and such) - while these are all horrendous, they show our infinite capacity to love.  When these tragedies happen, people step forward to help, crossing the barriers of hate.  {I’m not simply talking about those whose job it is to render assistance, but your everyday Joe or Josephine.}   They don’t see differences (race, religion, gender); they only see another human being who needs the help they can give.  If that “help” is pulling them from burning wreckage, helping them locate a missing friend or loved one, or is simply holding their hand as they pass away; giving them the comfort that at least someone was there.  When we see these things, we’ll call them “acts of heroism”, but many times they happen unnoticed.  That’s because people don’t wait around until a TV camera shows up before they act; they just do it.  People helping other people - not because they have to, but rather out of concern for the other person’s wellbeing … even at the cost of their own (love).

Our capacity to hate is deep, but time and time again we’ve shown that our capacity to love is infinitely higher.

Thank you for your thoughtful and hopeful reply Shuhak. I dunno.  The American people elected a hater. They love him admire him worship him adore him defend him live for him and would die for him. He represents the "best" in hate and so they must appreciate hate beyond love since love has nothing to do with him or anything he has ever don or anything to do with them. You cannot love if you worship hate and elevate it. Perhaps those Americans are unique haters and nowhere else in the world would hate be as obvious in an elected leader. There is no love there. There never was and never will be. In America haters have won so far. Will they win in the end?  I hope not but I don't put anything past then. Evangelicals went over to the dark side and have stayed there defending NO COLLUSION don. Evangelicals for god's sake! If they can do that then anyone is capable of anything. Maybe love rules in another elsewhere somewhere but in America since election day November 2016 hate has ruled. I wish I didn't think that or feel that or see that. Thank you for your reply! :)

The "American people" elected(?) a businessman-tycoon because he said things they wanted to hear.  They didn't bother to look deeper than his "flowing" words.  Many of things he spoke wouldn't be feasible without incurring monumental repercussions.  Now he's trying to do those stupid things he promised (and then some) ... still oblivious to the consequences.  And those who follow him seem to be just as oblivious.

The "prezy-poo" represents the "best" in selfishness.  He doesn't care what anyone else thinks (despite what he may say).  He's so wrapped up in himself that he thinks he's god (and god can do no wrong).
The hate that rules America doesn't just come from Washington.  The hate that rules America comes from us!  We hate others because they're different that we are or we don't agree with them.  Then we teach that hate to our children who in turn teach it to their children... and on and on it goes!   Our media is filled with messages of hate (music, movies/TV, games, jokes). Some outright blatant some more subtle.  Sometimes we even teach hate from our pulpits!  "Do unto others before they do it unto you."
What goes into the mind comes out in words and actions.  GIGO - garbage in garbage out.  Our "prezy-poo" may be a hater (as well as a complete and total jackass), but that doesnt let the rest of us off the hook (I hate because he hates).  Love can rule in America - despite the a-holes in Washington.  But it's OUR responsibility to make it happen.

If the sane portion of "we the people" had the power to oust him RIGHT NOW we would. Sadly those with the power to impeach are  spineless useless impotent scairdy cat toadies...aka Congress. They are afraid of their shadows so they will do nothing at all. If the November elections turn out as some of us hope Dems will regain the majority in the House and the Senate and IMPEACHMENT proceedings will begin immediately. In the meantime NO COLLUSION don is having his way in everything. I couldn't believe that the Justice Department caved and  will turn over some documents vis a vis the investigations enveloping him. His crazed desire to rule the world and DEMAND anything is beyond the pale. He needs to be put in a mental institution for the permanently insane. Seriously. He is surrounded by the worst people in the world who won't do anything to stop him as he continues on his path of destruction. He is evil incarnate and in league with the devil and the Evangelicals are with him every step of the way. I think God weeps. I'm gonna ask. Thank you for your reply Shuhak.
