I suppose there are rules for everything. Even prayer. Do folks who participate in Prayer Chains ever prayer chain for death/destruction?

I have always thought of prayer chains as being a good thing, a kind thing, a loving thing. A family is hurting because a loved one is dying or in jeopardy. Good positive loving kind thoughts blend together in the chain and surround them and strengthen them. But if you can have a loving supportive positive prayer chain can you also have the opposite? Does God listen to prayers that target the destruction of "thine enemy or the enemy of thy beloved"? Have you ever personally prayed for the destruction of someone? Did it work? Do you feel as good about yourself praying for the destruction of those you hate as you do praying for the survival of those you love? Is that what being a "good Christian" means? If not, what does it mean?

Prayer isn't some magical chant or a mass of positive energy.  Prayer is talking to God.  God isn't some magical genie that when we rub his lamp (pray) He'll grant our every wish.   He wants us to pray to Him.  He also wants us to ask Him for things.   But when we ask, we must ask in faith.  That means we must believe not only that God will answer our request, but that whatever answer He gives is the right one - even if that answer is no!  God says to pray FOR you enemy.  Not for his destruction, but rather that he would turn and stop being your enemy.

There is no such thing as a positive or negative "prayer chain".  We should pray, yes; but we should pray knowing that no matter what the outcome (whether God says yes or no) that it's what's best.  That's not easy form out limited viewpoint.  That's why we must have faith.  Without faith we make it about ourselves.  "God didn't answer so He must not exist", or, "it didn't happen like I asked, so I must not have prayed hard enough".

Have you ever participated in a prayer chain m'dear? I have. I have had the great luck to have a prayer chain for our son whose cancer keeps coming back. We folks who pray do the best we can. When prayer is your only option it is extremely precious and meaningful. However you perceive it. Do folk prayer chain for evil? Would GOD accept such a request as that? Thank you for your reply Shuhak! SIGH.  We can never know what we need to know/should know about our existence . So we do the best we can.  :(

yes. The church I attend has them all the time.

I understand what you mean by a "prayer chain for evil" and I'm sure some are foolish enough to do them.  However, anyone who would do such a thing doesn't know God and who He is or understand Him (and no, He wouldn't accept such a prayer).

They are comforting. The retirement community has them at times. We have a monthly newsletter so we are made aware of them as they occur and the reason. It's nice to know that people...sometimes complete strangers...are sending kind thoughts your way in a concerted effort to let you know you are not alone.  SIGH. I wish all people could do that. Not pray if it is not what they do but simply send kind thoughts to one another. We can all use them whether they actually can do anything or not. I  tend to think they are more helpful than they are given credit for. Do I KNOW that for a fact? No I don't but it is just a feeling I have. Thank you for your reply Shuhak and Happy Monday. I wonder when those who hate pray for harm to come to their"enemies" if they really think God would give them what they want? :(
