Is progress overrated? Do more folks like change for the better or going back to what was and staying there never more to aspire to better?

Seems to me that what underlies the notion of "progress" is that somehow we can make a perfect world.  Make the Kingdom of God on earth.  Which of course is just not going to happen because people are not perfectible and the world as created by God is perfect already.  So everything done to make things "better" in some ways will also make things worse. And many so-called improvements only tamper with the natural order and serve to make it easier for people to exploit for their own selfish interests.  In spite of all the things we have now I don't see the world as being any better now than it was when I was young in the 1970s. In fact I would say it has become much worse.
