If you lose keys on a city sidewalk in front of a random store, how likely is it the person will bring them in to the store to find?

Or would a real dumb passerby just pocket them out of spite?

  • Where we live, the chances are close to 100% that the keys will be turned in - either to the store, the police, the NRMA, or if the keys are tagged, directly back to the owner.

50/50, some turn lost things in for the reward or just the good feeling normal people get. Another possibility is they remain there on the ground with no one caring what or why.

I'll guess there's about a 43.8% chance that someone will pick them up off of the sidewalk and take them into a store to hand them to the clerk in case someone comes looking for them.
The only reason anyone might keep them is if there's a key fob that might unlock a vehicle in the parking lot.
    A criminal may want that.
Otherwise I could imagine a kid picking them up and taking them home just to play with.
Kids love to find stuff like that.

Good luck. This post was edited by Summer at June 15, 2018 3:55 PM MDT
