    Since the only species that can be labeled 'civilized/uncivilized' are humans, I guess one could say, by modern standards, that human cannibals are less civilized the the rest of us.

    I don't know about that Ele. Don't penguins mate for life? Don't some animal species care for the babies of other species? Having the definition of "civilized" rest upon what the proven-to-be-uncivilized humans say it is makes no sense to me personally. You see some human caregivers bond with animals. What is that about? Humans can't even bond with other humans.  They have pets that they "love" and "care for" but also abuse ignore reject kill.   I dunno what civilized means to you but it probably doesn't mean the same thing to me.
